Finis Swimmer's Snorkel

Étrangement, ce sont parfois les choses simples qui prennent le plus de temps à comprendre. Vous voyez, cette revue a pris beaucoup de temps à se préparer. J'ai récupéré le tuba Finis Swimmer's Snorkel, ainsi que leur tuba Freestyle, pour les tester en piscine. J'ai trouvé le concept génial : si vous pouvez pratiquer votre forme de nage sans avoir besoin de bouger la tête pour respirer, l'amélioration que vous obtenez en gardant votre centre immobile devrait se répercuter sur la nage régulière. C'est le concept, mais l'exécution s'est avérée plus compliquée que je ne l'avais imaginé.

D’une part, s’installer avec le tuba est un peu une épreuve. C'est assez simple : un bracelet en caoutchouc passe sur votre front et le tuba descend du centre de votre visage jusqu'à votre bouche. Mais ajuster la hauteur du tuba pour que votre bouche soit au bon endroit peut être délicat. Et il faut tirer TRÈS serré la sangle frontale pour éviter que le tuba ne bouge pendant que vous nagez. Si vous ne le faites pas, le tuba deviendra complètement bancal lorsque vous effectuerez un virage et s'inclinera d'un côté ou de l'autre lorsque vous remonterez, provoquant une traînée qui tirera sur votre tête. C'est compliqué.

De plus, la technique de nage avec cette bête demande plus de réflexion qu’on ne le pense. Pour moi, même si j'ai été nageur et parfois plongeur en mer, nager avec l'un ou l'autre de ces engins m'a fait prendre de l'eau dans le nez et la bouche. Il faut perfectionner la technique de respiration avec ces gars-là, et en fait, la respiration représente 50 % de ce que les tubas sont censés entraîner. Pas tant en technique, mais plutôt en force. Ce n'est pas facile de respirer avec ça ! Après vos premiers 50 mètres, vous vous retrouverez plus essoufflé que vous ne le pensez, même si vous pouvez respirer quand vous le souhaitez. Eh bien, en quelque sorte. J'ai découvert que pour moi, la meilleure façon d'utiliser le tuba était d'expirer régulièrement par le nez, puis de prendre de longues inspirations avec le tuba. Mais ces longues respirations ne vous font pas respirer beaucoup d’air, car le tuba est étroit. Et lorsque vous faites des virages inversés, assurez-vous de prendre une bonne respiration profonde juste avant, afin que lorsque vous quittez le mur, vous ayez suffisamment de puissance pulmonaire pour souffler l'eau qui a rempli le tuba. Vous pouvez également expirer par la bouche tout en effectuant le retournement, mais j'ai trouvé cela moins efficace que la méthode de l'éruption.

En fin de compte, les tubas font deux choses : ils vous aident à garder votre corps immobile et ils entraînent un peu vos poumons. Ce n'est pas le genre d'outil que j'utiliserais pour un entraînement complet - peut-être qu'un 3x300 ou 2x400 avec le tuba est tout ce dont vous auriez besoin pour en avoir un bon avant-goût. En fin de compte, ce ne sont pas les choses les plus faciles à utiliser, mais j’ai l’impression que tout ce qui peut briser la monotonie d’un entraînement de natation en vaut la peine.
