Il n'y a que trois points de contact sur n'importe quel vélo : le guidon, la selle et les pédales. Ces trois domaines sont propices à des économies de poids, comme nous l'avons déjà exploré au début. Pour cet épisode de la série Lighten Up, nous nous dirigeons vers le Sud. Entre les manivelles, les plateaux et les pédales, nous avons beaucoup de grammes à perdre. Alors, commençons.

Notre pédalier de choix pour cette version est le Lightning SL Carbon. Il s'agit d'une manivelle légère et très lourde en fonctionnalités. Pour une analyse vraiment détaillée des différentes options de manivelle légère, jetez un œil au Tir à la manivelle Fairwheel Bikes . Ils ont fait un travail fantastique en les analysant tous, nous n’avons donc pas besoin de réinventer la roue.

La manivelle Lightning SL est l'équilibre parfait de ce que nous recherchions. C'est l'une des manivelles les plus légères du marché, surpassée uniquement par la THM Clavicula et l'AX Morpheus. Mais il dépasse ces deux manivelles dans trois domaines. Premièrement, il présente un facteur Q étroit et agréable, qui est sans doute meilleur sur le plan aérodynamique et préférable sur le plan ergonomique pour de nombreux cyclistes. Deuxièmement, il est doté d'une araignée interchangeable, ce qui signifie que vous pouvez échanger les manivelles du compact au standard sans acheter une nouvelle manivelle. Cette araignée est également compatible Quarq, donc l'ajout de puissance est une option simple et donne lieu à la manivelle de capteur de puissance la plus légère disponible partout. Enfin, cette beauté est disponible dans n'importe quelle taille de 160 mm à 190 mm, ce qui en fait la manivelle légère la plus utilisable du marché. Et c'est très rigide en plus. Si la manivelle vous semble familière, c'est parce que vous avez peut-être déjà vu sa progéniture. Les vélos spécialisés ont tellement aimé le design Lightning qu'ils en ont acheté le brevet et le fabriquent actuellement eux-mêmes en tant que pédalier S-Works, en le spécifiant sur leurs vélos haut de gamme.

Nous l'avons associé à un ensemble exotique de plateaux Fibre-Lyte qui ne pèsent que 80 g pour la paire. Le choix était évident, tant du point de vue du poids que du point de vue esthétique. Le tissage 3k des plateaux Fibre-Lyte correspond à celui des manivelles Lightning. De plus, ce sont parmi les anneaux les plus rigides du marché (Quarq rapporte qu'ils s'étalonnent très bien sur une configuration de capteur de puissance), et leur seul inconvénient, autre que leur prix, est la précaution supplémentaire qui doit être prise pour ne pas se déplacer sous charge. Pour être honnête, ce n'est jamais une bonne idée de changer de vitesse sous une charge. Mais en faire trop peut conduire à une dent de plateau ébréchée. De plus, ils ne dureront pas aussi longtemps que les anneaux en acier, mais j'ai parcouru plusieurs milliers de kilomètres avec chaque jeu d'anneaux Fibre-Lyte que j'ai commandé, et je reviens toujours pour en savoir plus. Ils sont tout simplement trop géniaux. Le poids final de ce système, y compris les manivelles, l'araignée, les plateaux et le boîtier de pédalier, pèse 544 grammes. C'est plusieurs CENTAINES de grammes de moins qu'un système Dura-Ace.
