Brent McMahon's QR PRSix from Ironman Texas
Brent McMahon is among the sport's most successful and consistent athletes. The Olympian and Ironman champ has not always had the best luck, being set back with injuries and tough finishes, but his tenacity always brings him back to the starting line. His position looks to have improved significantly from years past, although I'd love to help him improve it further. This weekend, he clocked a rare sub-8-hour finish at Ironman Texas, though the depth of that ultra-fast (slightly short) course meant that he took 5th place on the day.
Brent rides a Quintana Roo PRSix, rim brake edition, complete with TriRig Omega brakes front and rear. He's riding an Easton-branded front wheel, and a debadged Zipp Super-9 in back. Even more interesting is his Easton aerobar up front: it's an older-generation bar that is simple and light, but provides zero stack adjustment. He's riding Oakley's new aero road helmet, a lid that I was not too impressed with when I tried it in person - it's cramped, and the visor is quite a pain to put on in a hurry. But, sponsorships are sponsorships. Helmet aside, Brent is one athlete that I'd love to be able to help with more prudent gear choices to match his exceptional talent and work ethic.
