Rueda de disco Dash Cycles Gretchen 25

Dash Cycles es una empresa muy en la tradición TriRig. Son pequeños. Son disruptivos (inserte aquí la pegatina de Calvin). Atiende a un mercado muy específico y centra toda su atención en ser la mejor empresa posible en el nicho elegido. En el caso de Dash Cycles<, se trata de ruedas y sillines ultraligeros. Y hasta ahora nadie se acerca siquiera a la supremacía de Dash en este ámbito. Sus sillines rápidamente se convirtieron en mis favoritos, comenzando con su primer sillín de triatlón, el Tri.7. Desde entonces, prácticamente todas las bicicletas que construyo tienen un sillín Dash en la parte superior.

Cada año, Dash Cycles continúa refinando y renovando su línea de productos, y sus revisiones nunca decepcionan. A finales de 2015, presentaron el nuevo disco Gretchen, que ahora presenta una pared lateral de 25 mm de ancho que desciende directamente hasta el buje sin ningún tipo de forma. La postura amplia funciona bien con cuadros y neumáticos modernos, mientras que las paredes laterales rectas garantizan que no haya interferencias con cuadros o desviadores. De hecho, es una rueda muy versátil. Y con unos míseros 810 g, es más liviano que básicamente cualquier otro disco del mercado.
,br/> El Gretchen 25 Disc es una actualización del Dash Gretchen original, que era un disco recto de 21 mm de ancho. La nueva Gretchen 25 tiene, como su nombre indica, 25 mm de ancho. Se trata de un mejor ajuste aerodinámico para cuadros modernos y ofrece más rigidez lateral que su predecesor. ¿Notarás el aumento de la rigidez lateral? Probablemente no. ¿Pero su mejor aerodinámica te hará más rápido? Si andas en una bicicleta de triatlón fabricada en los últimos 6-7 años, casi seguro que sí.

Aparte de su mayor ancho, la diferencia más notable en la nueva Gretchen 25 es el uso de fibra de carbono 1k en todas partes. La Gretchen original utilizó mucho carbono unidireccional, donde cada capa proporciona una gran rigidez en una dirección, mientras que cada capa de 1k la proporciona en dos direcciones. Una vez más, probablemente sea imposible discernir alguna diferencia en la práctica, pero la nueva versión debería ser más rápida basándose exclusivamente en su geometría.

El principal punto de venta del producto Dash sobre otros discos es su peso excepcionalmente bajo. El Gretchen 25 pesa solo 810 g, aproximadamente lo mismo que un tubular trasero Zipp 303, ¡y justo por debajo del peso de un Zipp 202 Carbon Clincher! Es una hazaña asombrosa, dado que estamos hablando de un disco completo. Si lo comparamos con, digamos, una parte trasera Zipp 808 Carbon Clincher, ¡la Dash Gretchen 25 representa un ahorro de peso de más de 200 g! Y su aero palmarés lo sitúa, en el peor de los casos, en el mismo estadio, si no mejor.

Hay dos inconvenientes principales del Dash Gretchen 25 Tubular. El primero, por supuesto, es su precio. Pagarás $2500 por este disco, aunque esto es proporcional a las ofertas de empresas como Zipp y otros. El segundo inconveniente es la pista de frenado de paredes delgadas. Al estar construida enteramente de fibra de carbono, no es tan buena para disipar el calor como una llanta de paredes más gruesas (como las de FLO Cycling y otros), por no hablar de una pista de freno de aluminio, el estándar "oro" para el rendimiento de frenado. Estas diferencias no suponen una gran diferencia para las carreras, donde las frenadas son menos frecuentes y las condiciones generalmente son ideales, pero serían importantes para el entrenamiento, especialmente en mojado.

Dicho esto, el producto Dash está destinado principalmente a las carreras, donde consideraciones como el precio y el clima suelen ser prioridades bajas. Para entrenar, puede que no sea la mejor elección, pero ¿quién entrena muy a menudo con un disco?

Una nota final a considerar es la selección de neumáticos. Chicos como Tom Anhalt, Josh Poertner de Silca y otros han estado trabajando mucho recientemente demostrando que se pueden obtener importantes ventajas de rendimiento prestando cuidadosa atención a la selección de neumáticos/cámaras y a la presión de inflado elegida. Los mejores datos sugieren que hay muchos neumáticos de cubierta excelentes (como el Continental GP4000s II, el Continental Force, el Continental Supersonic, el Specialized Turbo Cotton, etc.), pero menos neumáticos tubulares rápidos e incluso menos neumáticos rápidos específicos para carretera. tubulares. Las ruedas del tablero son todas tubulares al momento de escribir este artículo. Por lo tanto, debe ser muy cuidadoso y específico a la hora de elegir neumáticos al elegir una rueda Dash.
