REVISIÓN en VIDEO - Finis Swimsense

 

Si hay algo que les encanta a los triatletas son nuestros gadgets. Desde relojes GPS y monitores de frecuencia cardíaca hasta reproductores de mp3, ciclocomputadores, medidores de potencia y el software analítico para gestionarlos todos, no hay un momento en tu vida de entrenamiento en el que no puedas conectarte a algún tipo de tecnología electrónica. Pero, sorprendentemente, no hay muchos dispositivos involucrados en la parte de natación de nuestro deporte. Normalmente, el límite de los equipos de natación de alta tecnología no es más que un cronómetro. Hay un vacío en el continuo tecnológico, un vacío que Finis está empezando a llenar, y lo está haciendo con estilo. Recientemente revisamos su novedoso reproductor de mp3 y ahora están presentando algo aún más genial: un reloj computarizado para natación con todas las funciones. Se llama Swimsense Performance Monitor.

El Swimsense es para la natación lo que un reloj GPS es para correr o andar en bicicleta. Cuenta tus vueltas, registra tu distancia y ritmo, cuenta tus brazadas e incluso identifica tu brazada tipo. Sí, vuelve a leer ese último fragmento. Este reloj sabe qué brazada estás realizando de forma automática. Pasa de hacer 25 de estilo libre directamente a 50 de mariposa, sin parar, y el Swimsense no pierde el ritmo. Reconoce cada golpe correctamente, cuenta los golpes de cada uno y lo registra todo.

El reloj depende de algunas entradas clave para hacer las cosas bien. Primero, debes decirle en qué mano lo llevas puesto. Y usted le dice cuánto mide su piscina: puede tener una longitud impar de 25 a 50, en yardas o metros. Por lo tanto, funciona muy bien para todo tipo de piscinas, pero no funciona en aguas abiertas.

El Swimsense se acopla a esta base, que se conecta a la computadora mediante USB y también carga el dispositivo.

 

El reloj almacena hasta 14 entrenamientos a la vez, que luego se pueden descargar en su computadora a través del software Swimsense Bridge, disponible de forma gratuita en Finis. El programa carga sus entrenamientos en una base de datos en línea y luego puede verlos todos desde una interfaz basada en web, lo que significa que puede acceder a ellos desde cualquier parte del mundo. La interfaz le brinda una excelente vista panorámica de su entrenamiento, desglosándolo por tipo de brazada, intervalo o, en el nivel más fino, un análisis de cada longitud individual que nadó durante el entrenamiento.

El software también viene con otra ventaja: actualizaciones periódicas del firmware del propio Swimsense. Por ejemplo, nuestro dispositivo al principio tenía algunos fallos en el reconocimiento de accidentes cerebrovasculares. Pero tan pronto como conectamos la unidad al software Bridge, reconoció que nuestro reloj necesitaba una actualización y lo hizo automáticamente. Todo el proceso duró unos dos minutos y luego el reloj estuvo en funcionamiento sin problemas. Tenemos que felicitar a Finis por permanecer dedicado al producto y estar realmente orgulloso de él.

El único inconveniente real que hemos encontrado es la duración limitada de la batería. Este no es un reloj que puedas guardar en tu bolsa de natación durante semanas seguidas; simplemente no durará tanto. Si tiene cuidado, puede realizar entrenamientos durante una semana antes de que desaparezca. Pero cuidado, el botón ON está configurado como un gatillo: el más mínimo roce y la unidad se enciende. Entonces, si lo arrojas en tu bolsa de natación, es probable que se encienda solo en algún momento, desperdiciando la vida útil de la batería. Para asegurarse realmente de tener suficiente energía, es mejor conectarlo al menos cada dos entrenamientos para completarlo. También nos gustaría ver más opciones de personalización para la pantalla de entrenamiento. La unidad admite cuatro campos de datos: el central es siempre el tiempo total de entrenamiento, el superior es el tiempo parcial actual y los dos inferiores se pueden cambiar, pero no de forma independiente (usted elige un par de campos preestablecidos para mostrar). Con suerte, una futura actualización de firmware ofrecerá más ajustes aquí. Pero en cualquier caso, el reloj funciona bien y es genial tener este tipo de tecnología en la piscina, donde hace tiempo que falta. El reloj no es barato, pero su precio de 199 dólares es acorde al de un cuentakilómetros o un reloj para correr comparable.
