Análise: Rodas Mavic CXR 60 + CXR 80

O gerente de comunicação da Mavic, Zack Vestal, passou na sede da TriRig para deixar um produto muito especial � as novíssimas CXR 60 Clinchers. �Este é o único par dessas rodas em todo o país�, ele me informa. Hum, uau. Vou tentar não quebrá-las. Elas não devem chegar às lojas antes de setembro, então, por enquanto, não há muitos pares por aí.

Os CXR 60 Clinchers que estou analisando hoje são o produto mais recente da Mavic e a mais recente adição à sua novíssima e muito elegante linha CXR. A série CXR começou com o tubular de 80 mm do ano passado e está se expandindo este ano com as novas versões tubular e clincher de 60 mm. A linha inteira segue a tendência moderna de rodas mais largas projetadas como um aerofólio reversível. Ou seja, elas são projetadas para serem rápidas não apenas como um aerofólio cuja borda de ataque é o pneu e cuja borda de fuga é o diâmetro interno do aro, mas também quando você inverte esse formato e usa o aro interno como borda de ataque e o pneu como borda de fuga. Zipp e HED foram as primeiras a abrir esse caminho, e agora a grande maioria das novas rodas lançadas segue a tendência.

A Mavic se concentrou em aerofólios NACA e projetou a roda de modo que tanto os aerofólios "dianteiros" quanto "recuados" seguissem muito de perto os perfis NACA. Isso apesar das tendências da indústria que "se afastaram" dos formatos NACA � outras marcas alegam que os formatos NACA são projetados para baixa guinada e que outros formatos podem atender melhor às condições de alta guinada. Independentemente dessa alegação, a Mavic parece ter feito um trabalho excelente com a linha CXR, e suas rodas têm um desempenho muito bom em todos os ângulos de guinada em testes independentes. Em pelo menos um teste de terceiros, o CXR 80's venceu o 808 Firecrest da Zipp, o Jet 90 da HED e o Bontrager Aeolus 7.


Falando em guinada, a Mavic afirma que suas rodas têm um manuseio mais previsível em ventos cruzados por causa da relação linear entre força lateral e ângulo do vento. Essa é a filosofia que tanto a Mavic quanto a ENVE estão defendendo. Pessoalmente, estou mais persuadido pela filosofia alternativa promovida pela Zipp e pela HED � eles projetam suas rodas para manter as forças laterais o mais baixas possível em qualquer velocidade do vento, independentemente de como a �curva de resposta� se parece quando você a coloca em um gráfico. Para mim, essa curva em particular não significa muito. Ou seja, não me importo muito que a relação entre ventos de força lateral de 15 mph seja proporcional à força a 30 mph; só me importo que a força permaneça o mais baixa possível. No entanto, os Mavics lidam muito bem com o vento. Então, apesar da diferença de filosofia, eles ainda se sentem muito bem. Estou tentado a dizer que a Zipp pode ser apenas um pouco melhor neste departamento, mas não muito. Eu ficaria feliz em levar o CXR 60's para fora, mesmo em uma pista de corrida com vento. Eu ainda ficaria um pouco relutante em usar o 80's em ventos fortes, mas muitos atletas estão fazendo exatamente isso, mesmo nos fortes ventos alísios em Kona.
