Curso de serviço: Blue Triad SL de Paul Matthews

Paul 'Barney' Matthews pode ser um dos caras mais esquecidos no esporte do triatlo. Você pode dizer que ele 'voa sob o radar'. Mas com várias vitórias de 70,3, uma corrida incrível e várias chegadas de Ironman em 8 horas e minutos de um dígito, ele é inegavelmente uma força a ser reconhecida. E depois de ficar decepcionado com sua sorte em Kona este ano, ele está de volta à ação para enfrentar o Ironman Arizona no domingo, 16 de novembro. Demos uma olhada de perto na bicicleta de Paul no Campeonato Mundial do Havaí, e notei que sua configuração frontal parecia que poderia perder um pouco de área frontal. Então, inclinei a orelha de Paul e o informei que gostaria de trabalhar um pouco na bicicleta. Ele estava por dentro e levou sua Blue Triad SL para a sede da TriRig para uma personalização completa do curso de serviço.

O quebra-cabeça do ajuste
A posição de Paul é relativamente direta. Sem inclinação maluca do guidão, sem acessórios malucos. O estranho sobre sua configuração Kona era a combinação de componentes que ele estava usando para atingir suas coordenadas de ajuste necessárias. Especificamente, ele tinha uma mesa com cerca de 30 mm de elevação (para ficar mais alto), então uma barra cujos apoios de mão cairiam (para ficar mais baixo), extensões montadas sob a barra de base (para ficar mais baixo), um espaçador de 20 mm sob as pastilhas (para ficar mais alto) e uma extensão de pilha extremamente alta (para colocar os trocadores no lugar certo). Era um caso de cima para baixo, componentes agindo contra os propósitos uns dos outros de uma forma que simplesmente adicionava material extra desnecessário.

Então meu objetivo era simples: obter uma haste plana e uma barra plana, então simplesmente adicionar espaçadores de pastilhas para chegar à coordenada apropriada. Parece fácil, e deveria ser. Mas neste caso, não foi.

Veja, a mesa que estava na bicicleta dele era um componente integrado à Blue Triad. Sua mesa de elevação positiva é a única opção disponível para a bicicleta e deve ser parafusada no garfo de baioneta. Então, foi preciso um pouco de criatividade para encontrar a solução certa. Na verdade, eu hackeei seu garfo de baioneta, nivelando-o para que aceitasse nossa mesa Sigma XF e até modifiquei a Sigma para parafusar diretamente no garfo. Foi uma tarefa muito delicada e que claramente anularia a garantia de qualquer um que tentasse replicá-la (não tentem isso em casa, crianças!), mas colocou a braçadeira do guidão exatamente onde queríamos.

A partir daí, o trabalho foi bem direto. Um aerobar Alpha substituiu o ENVE SES bar ali, para manter sua posição de base, e os espaçadores do Alpha colocaram suas pastilhas no lugar certo. Então, como resultado de ter as extensões presas logo abaixo de suas pastilhas (em vez de 70 cm abaixo delas), pudemos usar uma extensão muito mais rasa para colocar seus shifters na posição, neste caso as extensões Gamma que vêm com o Alpha.

E com freios Omega dianteiros e traseiros, Paul está completamente equipado com a pintura TriRig. Infelizmente, não pudemos aproveitar o batente de cabo integrado da Sigma, devido ao garfo de baioneta atrapalhar. Mas o roteamento cuidadoso do alojamento significa que não há área frontal adicional, então as coisas permanecem boas e limpas. Finalmente, instalei um boss de tubo superior M5 personalizado para prender um TorHans Aerobento que esconde os cabos e a caixa de junção Di2, e também fornece um pouco de armazenamento aerodinâmico. O boss M5 personalizado também deu um pouco de trabalho, já que a Triad SL não tem bosses de tubo superior de fábrica.
