Revisión: Juego de ruedas Reynolds AR80

Genial, otra reseña de ruedas. Sí, el mercado se ha saturado mucho y hemos escrito muchas otras reseñas de ruedas. No, no voy a contarte un cuento de hadas sobre cómo estas son las ruedas más rápidas jamás fabricadas, ni que se manejan mejor que cualquier otra rueda con fuertes vientos cruzados. Lo que diré es que cumplieron todos los requisitos. Dejame explicar.

 

La mayor parte de lo que hago es con ruedas de apoyo. No, no del tipo que aprenden a montar los niños de 4 años, sino de las ruedas de aluminio poco profundas que aparentemente son inmunes a los baches y al viento cruzado por igual. Pero lo que les falta a las ruedas de apoyo en velocidad lo compensan con una gran durabilidad. Llevo un tiempo practicando este deporte y competí a nivel profesional con todo tipo de equipamiento. Pero todavía siento un verdadero amor y aprecio por los excelentes equipos. Por eso, cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de probar un juego de ruedas de carbono de sección profunda, sigo teniendo esa misma sensación infantil de magia y asombro. Al final del día, ¡realmente sólo quiero ir rápido!

 

Al montar el juego de ruedas Reynolds AR80 en mi equipo Omni, instantáneamente percibí una diferencia en mi capacidad para traducir la fuerza directamente a través de la transmisión a las ruedas, sin retrasos. Quizás eso sea el resultado de un espaciado más fino entre los trinquetes del eje libre. Quizás sea un efecto placebo. Pero se sintió bien. Navegar contra el viento fue igualmente impresionante. Percibí menos esfuerzo del habitual a la hora de mantener mi línea en velocidad. Esto fue cierto a pesar de su significativa profundidad. Normalmente, si vas a ser arrastrado por la carretera, una rueda delantera de 80 mm de profundidad proporcionará un área amplia para que el viento se apodere de ti. Pero las llantas modernas de la era "Firecrest" hacen un muy buen trabajo al controlar incluso las ráfagas fuertes, y el AR80 no es una excepción.

Es evidente que estas ruedas son un esfuerzo maduro de Reynolds y el resultado de mucha experiencia y conocimiento en la fabricación de aros rápidos durante muchos años. Reynolds se ha ganado credibilidad en el espacio de las ruedas y el AR80 es un buen ejemplo de ese merecido pedigrí.
 

Por supuesto, el rendimiento aerodinámico no lo es TODO, a pesar de lo que algunas empresas puedan afirmar en un eslogan conciso. Consideraciones prácticas como la seguridad, la confiabilidad y la durabilidad marcan una diferencia muy real para los atletas que tienen que pagar la factura de su propio equipo (léase: no profesionales). Personalmente, no necesariamente querría un juego de ruedas que se arrugarían al ver un bache. Y en mi propia prueba de conducción, enfrenté una buena cantidad de imperfecciones en la carretera en Colorado durante mis horas de prueba con el juego AR80. Las ruedas los manejaron con gracia, absorbiendo gran parte de las vibraciones discordantes y, lo más importante, permaneciendo firmes. En resumen, las ruedas están bien construidas y listas para largos recorridos.

 

Lo último que mencionaré debería ser el elemento menos importante de esta lista, a menos que estés haciendo una carrera únicamente cuesta arriba, que es el peso. En cuanto a los aros de carbono, no serán el juego más liviano que puedas comprar, pero siguen siendo significativamente más livianos que un par de zapatillas deportivas. Serán competitivas con otras llantas de su clase de profundidad, como la 808 (u 858) de Zipp, la Enve SES 7.8, la FLO 90 o similares. Si está buscando llantas de esta clase de profundidad, los números de peso ultraligero no deberían ser su preocupación, y Reynolds tampoco le da ningún motivo para preocuparse.

Pero hasta el impuesto al latón. ¿Compraría un juego de estos? Por el precio y por lo que ofrecen, son absolutamente competitivos. El juego de ruedas completo cuesta $1300, similar a un juego de cubiertas FLO Carbon y un buen juego todoterreno. Aunque sin el mismo dinamismo y factor sorpresa de marcas como Zipp o Hed, el Reynolds AR80 podría entrenarse y competir con confianza durante muchos años.
